From the Junction City Daily Union

As famous American writer and satirist Mark Twain once exclaimed, “The report of my death was an exaggeration.”

While the supposed demise of the printed version of newspapers has been around for several years, the Junction City Daily Union is proving that axiom is not necessarily always true.

Owner and Publisher Emeritus John Montgomery announced Saturday the Daily Union will be expanding the number of days it will be printed from three days to five days. The change is planned for the week of Sept. 21.

The new schedule means the newspaper will be delivered Tuesdays through Saturdays.

“While online and mobile are important aspects, the printed news remains the heart of our business and will likely remain so for some time,” Montgomery said. He said the decision three years ago to cut back printing to three days a week was an unpopular one with long-time readers.

“We will continue to explore the online options and how to make that experience better for those who want to receive their local news that way,” he said.

But printing five days a week, he said, will make it a better experience for those who prefer to read about their friends, neighbors and their communities via the printed word.

The additional two days also better serves advertisers, giving them more options when planning their ad campaigns.
