KU students write legislative stories for KPA

LAWRENCE — Journalism students at the University of Kansas have uploaded several stories from the Kansas Statehouse for use by Kansas Press Association members during this legislative session.

All you have to do to use the content is click on the link below.

This is the second year for the KU Statehouse Wire Service, made possible through a grant from the Kansas Newspaper Foundation. Access to the content is free to KPA members.

"This past week, KU students have written stories on wind energy, lighter sentences for juvenile offenders, sexting, proposed changes in welfare benefits, air guns on school campuses, medical amnesty for students who seek medical help after drinking too much, and collective bargaining meetings open to the public," said Barbara Barnett, associate professor in the William Allen White School of Journalism at KU.

The stories are available to KPA's 210 member newspapers, and KNF has committed $5,000 in cash awards for students who excel in covering the Kansas Legislature.

"This is a service KPA members have told us they want," said Doug Anstaett, KPA executive director. "The content is edited by KU faculty and student editors, so please take advantage of this opportunity to augment the coverage in your newspaper."
