Hoch, Edward Wallis

Edward Wallis Hoch was born March 17, 1849, in Danville, Kentucky, and came to Kansas in 1871. He purchased the Marion County Record in 1874 and operated it until his death in June, 1925.

Hoch was a member of the state legislature in 1889-91 and again from 1893-95, when he served as speaker pro tem. He was elected governor of Kansas in 1905 and won a second term in 1907 despite losing in his home county.

He was a member of the board of administration from 1913 to 1919, and spent a number of years as a lecturer on the Chautauqua circuit after his terms as governor.
