Two Kansas newspapers change hands

Kansas newspapers in southwest and northwest Kansas have changed hands.

Western Times

Lace David has purchased the Western Times in Sharon Springs from Sunny Henderson.

Henderson had been the owner and editor since 2015, when she took over the newspaper from her mother, Julie Samuelson, who had owned it for 15 years.

David has been working at the newspaper since 2016.

She is a Phillipsburg native. She and her husband, Corey David, relocated from Hays to Sharon Springs in 2012. They have three children: Jess, a sophomore at the University of Kansas; Erikson, a second grader, and Violet, a first grader.

She said she is "excited to cover the news and life of Wallace County."

Montezuma Press

JOS Publishing of Cimarron has purchased the Montezuma Press from Rudy Loewen. The sale is effective Thursday, Oct. 26.

Rudy and Jeanne Loewen had owned the operated the newspaper since July 1979. Jeanne was editor for 36 years before her death in 2015.

JOS Publishing is owned by Jerry Anderson. Cimarron and Montezuma are both in Gray County.

The Anderson family also owns several other newspapers in western Kansas, including the Cimarron Jacksonian, Bucklin Banner, Jetmore Republican, Oakley Graphic, Edwards County Sentinel, Dighton Herald, Leoti Standard and Haskell County Monitor-Chief.
