AOE entries down slightly following deadline

The change of the annual meeting date for the Kansas Press Association from April to February created some unintended consequences this year, and it resulted in a drop of about 10 percent in the number of entries in the Awards of Excellence contest compared to past averages.

Still, Emily Bradbury, KPA's assistant director and director of member services, applauded KPA members for stepping up to the plate.

"While we know this change created some issues for a number of members," she said, "we're pleased that so many newspapers still decided to showcase the best work of their staff."

Bradbury has been working feverishly with newspaper staff members these past several days to help them complete the uploading process.

Members of the Georgia Press Association will do the judging this year. The awards will be presented on Feb. 10 at the AOE luncheon in Topeka.
