The hotliine is a free service available only to KPA member newspapers.

Legal Hotline

The legal hotline — staffed by Max Kautsch — can assist with questions about open records, open meetings, access to courts, legal and court procedures, antitrust/unfair competition, law enforcement procedures, legal newspaper qualifications, legislation, defamation (libel and slander), public notices and legals, employer-employee laws, wages and hours, worker's compensation, unions, advertising laws, lottery, supplements and inserts, legal publication rates, political advertising, newspaper tax matters, sales tax, use tax, excise tax, invasion of privacy, copyright law, First Amendment issues, cameras in the courtroom and independent contractors.

Contact KPA's Legal Hotline at 785-840-0077. His email address is maxk@kautschlaw.com.

He cannot assist in cases involving disputes among KPA members or consultation that might adversely affect another KPA member. The Hotline, which is free for KPA members, is limited to telephone or brief electronic mail advice. KPA members may engage him for more involved matters on fee-based representation.
