Salina Journal

M. Olaf Frandsen is editor and publisher of the Salina Journal.

Frandsen had been publisher of the McAllen (Texas) Monitor since late 2002.

He has also been a regional vice president for Freedom Communications, the parent company of The Monitor, and oversaw five other daily and three weekly newspapers.

It was his passion for community newspapers that caused him to walk away from his job in Texas as publisher of five daily and three weekly newspapers and seek the job as editor and publisher of the Salina Journal.

"I had gotten away from what I love to do, which is to live and work and breathe in a community," Frandsen said.

His wife, Gail Burke-Frandsen, is a former newspaper editor who made the transition to hospital marketing and public relations.

They have a son, daughter-in-law and two granddaughters in Overland Park, with a third due in August. All together, the couple has three grown children and five grandchildren.
