Zach Ahrens was named president and publisher of The Topeka Capital-Journal in September 2015, a Morris Publishing Co. newspaper.

Ahrens previously was president and publisher of another Morris-owned newspaper, the Log Cabin Democrat in Arkansas.

He previously was vice president of sales for newspapers, magazines and websites owned by GateHouse Media. GateHouse Media announced in August that it had bought all the newspapers in Morris Publishing effective Oct. 2, 2017.

Ahrens began his career in 2000 at the York (Neb.) News-Times, which at that time was owned by Morris Publishing Group. He served as publisher of several weeklies in Nebraska before moving to Lee Enterprises in 2006 as advertising director for a Nebraska daily. He later worked as advertising and digital media director for the Grand Forks Herald in North Dakota.

He graduated with a degree in communications from York College in Nebraska. He served on a Nebraska school board and is a past Kiwanis president and Rotary board member.

He is married to Heidi, and their three children are Carter, Conner and Camrynn.
