Ned Seaton was raised in Manhattan, Kan., where he started as a paper carrier for The Mercury in 5th grade.
He graduated in 1986 from Manhattan High School, where he was the editor of the school newspaper, The Mentor. He graduated in 1990 with honors from Harvard, then began a career as a reporter.
He worked briefly at the Arizona Republic; for two years at the Orange County Register; for a year on the Kansas City desk at the Associated Press; and for three years at the St. Petersburg Times.
He came back to Manhattan in 1996, where he was a management trainee, then the news editor, then the general manager, and eventually the publisher and editor-in-chief.
He is married to the former Angie Oaks, a Manhattan native. He has three children and three stepchildren.
