Scott City opens season in Cimarron

Posted September 5, 2025

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–A brand new season brings in a new lineup, as Scott City will make the trip to Cimarron to face the Bluejays in the 2025 season opener at 7 pm.

Scott City put together a 9-2 campaign in 2024, falling to Holcomb in the Sectional round of the Class 3A playoffs. The Beavers lost a good chunk of that roster, but return their three interior lineman in Emilio Contreras, Reid Felker and Easton Eisenhour, who all received all-league honors, to go along with Cayden Couchman in the backfield. Drew Metzger had one start a year ago, and will be the signal caller on offense. Defensively, Scott City will replace three spots on the line, and return two full time starters in the secondary and linebacking corp from a team that yielded 14 points last year, while scoring 30 points per game. The Beavers are led by 10th year head coach Jim Turner.

Cimarron is under first-year head coach John Le, who was on staff over the course of the past two seasons. The Bluejays went 2-7 last year, falling to Haven in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs. They will have a new starting quarterback for the first time in four seasons in senior Cade Sonday, and they return two starting lineman and an all-league selection in McCoy Nash from last year. Cimarron averaged 17 points offensively and gave up just under 30 points per game a season ago. The Bluejays will replace a good portion of their lineup on both sides of the ball.

Tonight will be the 25th meeting all-time, with Scott City holding a 17-7 advantage, including three straight wins. The Beavers shut out Cimarron 35-0 in last season’s opener.

Expect cooler than normal temperatures for an early September game, with kickoff temperatures hovering in the mid 50’s, with an outside shot at rain.
