Update: Garden City Man dies after being struck by vehicle

Garden City, Kan.–A Garden City man died after being struck by a westbound vehicle just before 7 am Friday morning.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a 2008 Dodge Caliber driven by 20-year-old  Joziah Anwar Guerrero of Garden City was westbound on US Highway 50, when he struck a northbound pedestrian crossing the road and was struck in the westbound outside lane of US Highway 50.

The pedestrian was identified as 34-year-old James Michael Corbett of Garden City.

Corbett was taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City, where he was pronounced deceased. Guerrero was uninjured and was wearing a seatbelt according to the report.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Garden City, according to the release from the KHP.

On at approximately 07:00 am, Friday morning troopers responded to the 4500 block of U.S. Highway 50, near North Airlinks Drive. An alternate location is U.S. Highway 50 near milepost 71. A male pedestrian was walking north on U.S. Highway 50 when he was struck by a westbound passenger vehicle. The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

KHP’s Critical Highway Accident Response Team (CHART) was activated and responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. No further details are available at this time.
