Dodge City dominates Woodward early, cruises to 1-0 record

Posted September 6, 2025

The Dodge City Red Demon football team started their 2025 campaign with a 28-3 road win against the Woodward Boomers in a contest that saw the Demons dominate the first 13 minutes of the game.

After kicking off to start the game the Dodge City defense forced quick 3-and-out and got a good punt return from senior Jonathan Bone to set up the offense at the Woodward 28 yard line.

It didn’t take long for senior Kordell Howard to find his way into the end zone after a hole opened up for a 13-yard rushing touchdown on the third play of the drive.

The Dodge City defense provided their offense with great field position again when senior linebacker Adam Kisner intercepted a pass and was brought down at the Woodward 16-yard line after a short return.

Once again, the Demons made quick work and punched it in with junior Fabian Ortiz scoring the touchdown from one yard out to make it 14-0.

The Demon offense was stopped for the first time after an interception from Howard on a deep pass from Woodward quarterback Kash Carter.

When they got the ball back after a 3-and-out for the Demon defense, they drove down the field and punched it in with TyJour Hooke’s first carry of the night, a 10-yard touchdown that made it 21-0 with just over 11 minutes to go in the first half.

The Boomers did get decent field position after a Dodge City punt and managed to put their only three points on the night on the board just before halftime with a 35 yard field goal.

To start the second half, Dodge City moved quickly down the field and got a 23 yard touchdown run from their quarterback Ty Scheck to make it 28-3.

Outside of a missed field goal attempt from the Boomers, neither team threatened to score for the remainder of the game, allowing Dodge City to coast to victory.

Next week, the Demons will play their first home game as they host Olathe East. The Hawks lost their first game to 5A power Mill Valley 28-0. The matchup will be broadcasted on Z98 on Friday at 7:00.
