Lady Beaver volleyball splits Thursday home triangular

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City volleyball team played their second home triangular in three days on Thursday, hosting Hill City and Hoxie inside the Scott Community Events Center. Scott City would end up splitting once again, as they started with a 25-8, 26-24 win over Hill City, and closed with a loss to Hoxie 25-19, 23-25, 18-25. Hoxie would defeat Hill City in the first match 25-22, 25-11.

Lady Beavers take care of Hill City
Scott City perhaps played their most dominant set of the year to open with Hill City. The Lady Beavers trailed early 2-0, but responded with a 14-2 run, and also used an 11-2 run to close the opening set out. In the second set, the Lady Ringnecks would build a big 10-2 lead, only to see Scott City respond with a 9-2 run to get back into the set. Trailing 15-12, the Lady Beavers used a 7-3 run to take a 19-18 lead. Hill City would fight off match point at 24-22, forcing extra points. Scott City found a way to close the match out with two straight to end the match with a 26-24 win.

Peyton Gentry would have seven kills and three aces, while Piper Fox had five kills and Kinleigh Wren and Valeria Castillo each had three service aces.

Big run by Hoxie in third set hurts Scott City
In a match that saw 13 ties and eight lead changes, every point was critical. the opening set alone saw Hoxie jump out to a 4-0 lead. The Lady Beavers would come back and use a 7-2 run to lead 11-9. After that, the Lady Indians would take over, scoring six of the next eight points, and closed out the opening set with an 8-3 run to take the first set 25-19. Hoxie used their late first set momentum to open the second set and started out with a 5-0 lead. Scott City would find a way to cut the deficit. Trailing 11-7, the Lady Beavers used a 9-3 run to lead 16-14. The Lady Indians responsded and took the lead back at 18-17. It would go back and forth to close the set, as Scott City broke 21-all tie with four of the final six points to force a third set with a 25-23 win. In the third set, the Lady Beavers stormed out to a 4-1 lead. Hoxie would take over and never look back. They used a 13-2 run to open up a 14-6 lead and led 22-10, when Scott City would make a comeback that fell short at 25-18.

Peyton Gentry had seven kills, while Crissa Irvin, Piper Fox and Lily Lightner had three kills apiece. Kinleigh Wren added six service aces in the match.

Scott City is now 3-10 on the season and will return to the courts in Leoti on Thursday, September 18, at 4 pm against Wichita County and Dighton.
