Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Temperatures will be over 30 degrees warmer from week 1, as the Scott City Beavers play host to the Wray Eagles in their home opener at Darner Field in a 7 pm start for Military Night.

Wray has won their last 15 games, and were they Class 1A State Champions in Colorado last season. They’ve opened the 2025 season 2-0 after a 42-21 win at Goodland last Friday night. The Eagles built up a big lead and survived comeback efforts by the Cowboys that saw Goodland return two kickoffs for touchdowns. They had 382 yards rushing and finished 477 yards of offense, while holding Goodland to 219 yards of offense. Wyoming wrestling commit Austin Collins leads the charge at quarterback with four touchdown passes and 233 yards rushing and a score. Aaron Tena has five of Wray’s six touchdown receptions. This year, the Eagles have averaged 370 yards of offense in two games, while allowing only 152, and have outscored opponents 45-17. During their 15-game win streak, they have outscored opponents 43-10, and haven’t had a game closer than 21 points.

Scott City has opened 1-0 for the ninth straight season, the second longest streak in school history, as they shutout the Cimarron Bluejays 35-0 last Friday night on the road. The Beavers took their opening drive and scored, and led 20-0 after the first quarter that included a 95-yard blocked field goal return for a touchdown. The Beavers finished with 286 rushing yard and 370 total yards while limiting Cimarron to 141 yards, which included minus-22 yards rushing. Drew Metzger rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown, while passing for 84 more. The defense was led by Easton Eisenhour’s 12 tackles and an interception in the win.

This is the sixth meeting all-time in the series with Scott City leading 3-2. Wray would defeat the Beavers last year 42-14 at Powell Field, en route to their first state championship in 31 years. The series is 1-1 when played in Scott City.
