Senator Marshall Announces $5.7 Million in Emergency Relief Funds from the Trump Administration
Washington–On Thursday, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), announced that the Trump Administration will grant $5.7 million in emergency aid to the state of Kansas, following a letter submitted by U.S. Senators Marshall, Jerry Moran (R-KS), and U.S. Congressmen Tracey Mann (R-KS-01), Derek Schmidt (R-KS-02), Sharice Davids (D-KS-03), and Ron Estes (R-KS-04). President Trump personally called Senator Marshall to give him the good news.
“I am so thankful to President Trump and his administration for ensuring that Kansas communities have the critical assistance they need to rebuild after the severe storms in June of this year,” said Senator Marshall. “The aftermath of these natural disasters left lasting impacts, and the dangerous flash flooding affected communities beyond where the storms hit hardest.”
“Kansans are no strangers to the severe impacts of natural disasters on our state,” said Senator Moran. “I appreciate President Trump and FEMA approving Kansas’ request for federal support and a major disaster declaration following the devastating storms, winds, tornadoes, and flooding endured by Kansas communities earlier this year. This declaration will provide our state and local governments with resources to help Kansans recover and rebuild even stronger.”
From June 3 – 7, severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding ravaged several Kansas communities, specifically: Barber, Butler, Chase, Coffey, Cowley, Franklin, Greenwood, Harper, Hodgeman, Kingman, Lyon, Morris, Osage, Stanton, Sumner, and Wallace. The funds will also be used for Hazard Mitigation projects across the state.
Earlier in the year, Senator Marshall announced that the Trump Administration was also providing $6.7 million in disaster relief aid in response to the tornado outbreak in Bourbon, Cheyenne, Edwards, Gove, Kiowa, Logan, Pratt, Reno, Scott, Sheridan, and Stafford.
