Forensics and Debate Teams Starting at Middle Schools
Garden City Public Schools is looking at expanding Debate and Forensics teams into the middle schools in the district. The district has an award-winning program at the high school and is now looking at bringing that to the middle school level.
There will be an information meeting about forming a team at Kenneth Henderson Middle School on Monday, September 22, in the library, at the end of school. There will be an information meeting about forming a team at Horace Good Middle School on Tuesday, September 23, in the library, at the end of school. All students are welcome to attend the meeting. Students do not need to have experience to be on the team. Students do not need to be a good speaker; rather, the point of being on the team is to become a better speaker.
Forensics and Debate is a fun academic competition that focuses on public speaking, debating, research, writing and acting skills. Forensics provides a chance to perform, tell stories, and sharpen public speaking skills. Debate is all about researching, thinking fast, and learning how to make a case on a topic.
