Scott City game at Hoisington declared “No Contest”
Hoisington, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Friday’s game between Scott City and Hoisington at Elton Brown Field has been declared “no contest”, after the coaches and administrators mutually agreed to cancel the remainder of the game.
At around 7:40 pm during a Scott City timeout, officials made the decision to suspend the game due to lightning in the area, with Scott City leading 14-7 with 8:54 remaining in the first half. About 20 minutes in, it was agreed upon to suspend the game until Saturday at 1 pm. After further consideration, it would be mutually be agreed upon to cancel the remainder of the game.
Both teams leave the field with the identical records they entered with at 2-0 on the season.
The game started off with an 87-yard Peyton Bergner kickoff return for a touchdown to give Scott City an early 7-0 lead with the Pablo Solis extra point. Hoisington marched back down the field to tie the game on a nine-play drive that took nearly five minutes, that saw CJ Bryant score from 27 yards out to the the game at 7. The Beavers responded with a 13-play drive that covered 74 yards and resulted in a Bergner nine-yard run to put them back up 14-7 with the Solis PAT.
Both teams traded possessions, as the Cardinals fumbled, the Beavers would punt and force Hoisington to punt, before the game was suspended, with Scott City facing a 2nd and 20 at their own 35 yard line.
Up next will be homecoming for the Beavers, as they take on Ulysses in their final non-district game of the year next Friday at 7 pm. The Tigers are 1-2, and were shut out at home 32-0. Hoisington opens Class 2A, District 8 play at home against Southwestern Heights next Friday night.
