Scott City boys, Hooker girls claim Hugoton Cross Country Invite titles

Hugoton, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–On a nice and cool Saturday morning, several area schools made the trip to Hugoton for the annual Hugoton Cross Country Invitational. This year’s meet would be held around the school at Hugoton, due to ongoing work at the golf course.

Scott City’s boys and Hooker’s girls would take the team titles.

For the boys, the Beavers would outlast Lakin and Holcomb. Michael Hermosillo and Carson Gabel would finish first and third for Scott City. Lakin’s Camden Bergkamp was the runner-up, while Cimarron’s Asher English placed fourth, Meade’s Jordy Padgett was fifth and Holcomb’s Jeb Stoppel placed sixth.

In the girls race, Hooker won by 22 points over Scott City, while Lakin was third. South Gray’s Jenna Simmons was the winner, while Lakin got a second place finish from Kate Miller, and Jyntri Wilson from Cimarron placed third. Scott City was led by Brailey Cook in fifth place and Belle Trout was eighth.
