Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week voting opens
The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 3 of the fall sports season has opened.

This week’s nominees are:
Boys
Cole Ebert, senior, Newton High School, soccer. Scored a goal with an assist in two games, both Railer wins.
Dalton Philpott, junior, Peabody-Burns High School, football. Rushed for 205 yards on eight carries with five touchdowns in a 51-6 win over Marais des Cygnes Valley.
Kaizer Kanitz, senior, Moundridge High School, football. Rushed for 254 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns and hit eight of 16 passes for 66 yards with a touchdown and an interception in a 28-21 win over Medicine Lodge.
Girls
Naomi Koontz, junior, Newton High School, golf. Was top medalist at the McPherson Invitational with a course-record 63, eight under par.
Kasodi Schroeder, junior, Newton Homeschool Mustangs, volleyball. Had 21 kills, six aces, one block, 10 digs and 28 assists in four matches as the team went 2-2.
Elizabeth Hosford, junior, Hesston High School, golf. Took second at the Larned Invitational at 88.
Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the Kansan.
Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.
Coaches and administrators may suggest nominees by e-mailing [email protected]. Please include the athlete’s statistics for the week and a photo. Three boys and three girls will be selected as nominees each week.
