Garden City, Kan.–One person was taken to the hospital following a rollover crash early Sunday morning.

At around 3:30 a.m., city and county first responders were dispatched to the US Highway 50/83 bypass south junction following reports of a single-vehicle rollover crash. When they arrived, Officers found a Ford Explorer on its top. The driver, a 22-year-old man, managed to climb out of the vehicle on his own and was transported by Finney County EMS to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The investigation indicates the driver was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed and was witnessed weaving in and out of their lane. After entering a construction zone, the vehicle’s front left wheel struck a concrete barrier, displacing several sections. The impact caused the Explorer to roll over on its roof and slide before coming to a rest. Traffic was diverted for nearly 2.5 hours while first responders managed the scene and Kansas Department of Transportation crews repositioned the concrete barriers.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
