Lady Beaver volleyball drops two in home triangular

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The home finale for Scott City on Tuesday at the Scott Community Events Center, as the Beavers played host to Holcomb and Liberal. Scott City would compete in a pair of competitive matches, but fell short in both. Against Liberal, the Lady Beavers fell 26-24, 24-26, 27-25, and dropped the finale to Holcomb 25-23, 25-20. Holcomb won the first match of the day 25-14, 25-15.

Lady Beavers drop opener
In their opener, the Lady Beavers fell behind early, but found a way to build an 18-12 lead against the Lady Redskins. Liberal worked their way back and took a 23-22 lead, only to see Scott City get set point a 24-23. Unfortunately for the Lady Beavers, Liberal scored the final three points to take the opening set. Liberal led for most of set two leading 15-11 at the midway point. Scott City found a way to recover and work their way back for a tie at 20. Facing match point down 24-22, the Lady Beavers socred the final four points to win 26-24 to force a third set. Scott City looked strong early building a 10-3 lead. Liberal used a 12-5 run to tie the set at 15. It would be played tight to the very end, as the match would be tied at 23, 24 and 25. The Lady Redskins serve on match point would hit the tape, and drop over for an ace to end the match at 27-25.

Peyton Gentry had 10 kills, Piper Fox and Kinleigh Wren had eight kills and a service ace.

Scott City unable to maintain leads in the finale
The Lady Beavers at times played some of their best volleyball against Holcomb to close the evening out. In the first set, the Lady Beavers jumped out to a 15-8 run, on the heels of a 7-2 run. Following a Longhorn timeout, Holcomb responded and responded in a big way with a 12-1 run that put them up 20-16. Scott City wouldn’t go away, as they worked their way to a 23-all tie, before the Lady Longhorns closed the set out with the final two points for the 25-23 win. In the second set, Scott City led 5-0, before Holcomb scored four straight. The Lady Beavers led most of the way until a 5-1 run by the Lady Longhorns put them ahead 18-16. When Scott City responded with three straight, Holcomb would close the set and match out on a 9-1 run to win 25-20.

Peyton Gentry had 10 kills to lead Scott City while Kinleigh Wren and Lily Lightner had three kills and a block point.

Scott City is now 10-17 overall and will be in Colby for a GWAC triangular on Thursday, while Holcomb will face Ulysses in a GWAC dual on Thursday. Both teams will be at the GWAC tourament in Cimarron on Saturday.
