USD 457 Board of Education Meeting Recap October 13, 2025
Garden City Public Schools Board of Education met on Monday, September 13, 2025. The meeting was held at the Educational Support Center Board Room, 1205 Fleming Street.
The Board received a building presentation from Florence Wilson Elementary School. Students from the school led the opening of the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. The school presented a about the great things that are happening at the facility.
Under board report, there was review of KAP Assessment Data. KAP is the Kansas State Assessment program. Students are tested once a year in grades 3 – 8 and grade 10 over content in ELA and Math. There was an ELA textbook adoption update. There was a technology review, the Board discussed their expectations and desired outcomes from a review of the 1:1 program. A grade configuration review on work already done and what the next steps are to move the project forward.
Under new business, there was a first read of new courses for dual credit that included Business Management (0.5 Credit); Business Ethics (0.5 Credit); and Personal Finance (0.5 Credit). There was a first read of bus bids. There was a report on Year 1 and discussion on a Year 2 Measurement and Verification Services contract. Approved van bids. Approved a Design Bid Build process for district projects, which would be an addition and re-model at Kenneth Henderson Middle School to accommodate an extra grade. A first read of Student Information System purchase. A first read of an Artificial Intelligence Policy. Artificial Intelligence or (AI) is becoming an integral part of education, offering both opportunities and challenges. Without clear district guidance, staff and students may face inconsistent expectations, privacy concerns, and risks of misuse. A district policy is needed to ensure AI is used responsibly, equitably, and in alignment with our educational mission. A first read of an Electronic Media Policy. This policy intends to provide guidance to staff and administration around expectations for all electronic media. This policy was originally approved in 2012.
The Board held two executive sessions. The first one was for was for personnel matters for non-elected personnel. The second executive session was for personnel matters for non-elected personnel. No action was taken after the executive sessions.
The next meeting of the Board of Education will be Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming Street.
