Area teams advance to Sub-State play this Saturday
Monday and Tuesday saw the first day of postseason competition begin, as Class 3A to 1A, Division II that involved area teams. The top two in each region advanced to sub-state play on Saturday.
Starting on Monday in Class 3A, where Holcomb and Lakin hosted regionals, and both would advance. In Holcomb, the top seeded Lady Longhorns would win their regional by defeating Russell 25-8, 25-13, Southwestern Heights 25-13, 25-15 and Cimarron 25-20, 25-20. Southwestern Heights grabbed the second spot to advance to Saturday by knocking off Cimarron 25-19, 25-21 and Russell 25-18, 25-21. Cimarron would also defeat Russell 25-17, 25-8.
In Lakin, the Lady Broncs started the day off by defeating Lyons 25-8, 25-19, Minneapolis 25-8, 19-25, 25-16 and Norton 25-22, 25-20. Minneapolis would take the second place spot.
For Class 2A in Ellinwood, the unbeaten Lady Eagles would win the regional going 3-0 on the day. It was an area matchup to begin, as Stanton County defeated Wichita County 25-18, 23-25, 25-23. The Lady Trojans would knock off Hutchinson Trinity 25-17, 25-25, and fell to Ellinwood in the final match of the day 25-12, 25-7. Wichita County was third in the regional, as they also lost to Ellinwood 25-1, 25-7 and defeated Hutchinson Trinity 18-25, 25-19, 25-18.
In Hays, Syracuse would go 0-3, falling to Ell-Saline 18-25, 27-25, 25-22, TMP-Marian 25-12, 25-17 and Plainville 13-25, 25-22, 25-14.
Tuesday saw the Class 1A schools hit the court.
In Division I, top seed South Gray would advance to sub-state play with wins over Kinsley 25-9, 25-14 and Macksville 25-11, 25-12. Kinsley fell to Macksville 25-16, 25-23.
At Spearville, the Lady Lancers went 2-0 with wins over Kiowa County 25-9, 25-12 and Pretty Prairie 21-25, 25-4, 25-12. Pretty Prairie also advanced to Saturday.
Meade would host a quadrangular regional, and come out 3-0, as they won 25-13, 25-12 over Elkhart, 25-13, 25-11 over Pratt-Skyline and 25-18, 25-15 over Norwich. Elkhart went 0-3, as they fell to Norwich 25-10, 25-18 and Pratt-Skyline 21-25, 25-14, 25-13. Norwich was the runner-up.
Greeley County went 2-0 in their regional, defeating Central Plains 25-21, 25-13 and Ellis 25-14, 25-17. Ellis was second.
At Hodgeman County, the Lady Longhorns were 2-0 with wins over Lakeside 25-17, 25-21 and Hill City 25-19, 25-9. Hill City also advanced to Saturday.
For Class 1A, Division II, Satanta played only one match, and despite their loss to South Barber, they advanced to sub-state on Saturday. They would fall 25-19, 25-21. The top seed, Argonia, had to forfeit because they violated a scheduling rule and were unsuccessful on their appeal. They were seeded with a record of 36-1.
At Ingalls, the Lady Bulldogs would go 2-0 and advance to Saturday with wins over Ashland 25-10, 25-13, and Caldwell 25-13, 25-14. Ashland grabbed the second spot with a win over Caldwell 15-25, 25-23, 25-23.
Deerfield was 0-2 at Attica, as they fell to Attica 25-16, 25-10 and Cunningham 25-13, 25-4. Attica defeated Cunningham.
Bucklin would play host to a quad and advance to Saturday sub-state play by going 3-0. The Red Aces took down Minneola 25-11, 25-6, Rolla 25-11, 25-9 and Moscow 25-7, 25-21. Moscow was runner-up and defeated Rolla 25-21, 25-18 and Minneola 25-18, 25-22. Minneola would defeat Rolla 25-22, 25-19.
Dighton also advanced to sub-state play on Saturday, as they defeated Weskan 25-11, 25-9 and Western Plains 25-14, 25-8. Western Plains defeated Weskan for the second place spot.
