Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week voting opens
The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 7 of the fall sports season has opened.

This week’s nominees are:
Boys
Kingston Henry, junior, Newton High School, football. Had 23 carries for 95 yards rushing and a catch for 10 yards in a 15-14 loss to Hutchinson.
Owen Caldwell, senior, Moundridge High School, football. Hit 13 of 17 passes for 128 yards with three touchdowns and an interception in a 38-8 win over Sedgwick.
Daxon Deering, senior, Hesston High School, football. Has five catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns in a 40-32 loss to Riley County.
Girls
Natsuki Sawaguchi, senior, Newton High School, tennis. At the Class 5A state tournament, Sawaguchi and doubles partner Maisie Brubacher, finished 11th Class 5A in state doubles.
Elyse Griffin, senior, Hesston High School, tennis. At the Class 4A state tournament, Griffin and partner Sage Bartel finished sixth in double.
Delaney Duerksen, freshman, Goessel High School, volleyball. Had 24 kills in two Goessel wins at a home triangular.
Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the Kansan.
Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.
Coaches and administrators may suggest nominees by e-mailing [email protected]. Please include the athlete’s statistics for the week and a photo. Three boys and three girls will be selected as nominees each week.
