Colorado man dies in rollover crash in Hamilton County
Hamilton County, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–A Colorado man died in a rollover crash just after 7 a.m. Mountain Time Sunday morning in Hamilton County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that a 2024 Ram 2500 driven by 36-year-old Morgan Nikolai Stephens of Burlington, Colorado, was traveling on southbound Kansas 27 Highway just north of Road 15, when he traveled onto the right shoulder and the driver overcorrected to the left. The vehicle spun clockwise into the ditch and rolled an undetermined amount of times.
Stephens was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to St. Catherine’s Hospital. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, according to the KHP report.
In a release from the Cheyenne County, Colorado Sheriff’s Office, the same vehicle was in a pursuit at around 5 a.m. Mountain Time Sunday, and the vehicle traveled in excess of 110 mph. They terminated the pursuit after deputies identified the driver cle traveling in excess of 110 miles per hour. The pursuit was terminated after deputies were able to identify the driver and determined that continuing the pursuit would pose significant danger to the driver, the community, and law enforcement personnel.
Stephens was not being pursued at the time of the crash, and the incident remains under investigation.
