South Gray and Ingalls volleyball finished third in state tournaments
Saturday wrapped up the season for volleyball, as the final day of the state volleyball championships took place. Two area schools were able to make it out of pool play, as South Gray was competing at the United Wireless Arena in Dodge City in the Class 1A, Division I State Tournament, while Ingalls was at Emporia for the Class 1A, Division II State Tournament.
In Dodge City at the Class 1A, Division I tournament, the South Gray Rebels would take home third place on Saturday. As the first place team in their pool on Thursday, they would open up with the runner up from the other pool in Centralia. The Lady Panthers would win 25-14, 25-23. South Gray dropped to the third place match, where they would meet up with Quinter, who they defeated in three sets in a tightly contested match on Saturday. The Lady Rebels picked up a 25-19, 25-21 win over the Lady Bulldogs to take home the third place trophy. South Gray closed their season out at 40-5 on the season. Little River would sweep Centralia in the finals to win their fourth consecutive state title.
In Emporia, the Ingalls Lady Bulldogs were in the Class 1A, Division II State Tournament at White Auditorium. As the lone team not in the Twin Valley League to compete in the final four. The Lady Bulldogs opened up with pool play champion Hanover. Hanover would take down Ingalls 25-6, 25-14, and drop to the third place match and face the Axtell Lady Eagles. The Lady Bulldogs would close out the season with a win over Axtell 25-18, 25-22 to claim third place. During the day on Saturday, Olivia Stein would break a state record for most kills in a career. She’s headed to play volleyball at Wichita State. Hanover swept Linn in two sets to win the state title.
