State Conservation Commission Meeting and Elections
The State Conservation Commission will hold its quarterly meeting and also conduct the election of new members during the annual conference of the Kansas Association of Conservation Districts (KACD) in Wichita later this month.
First, the commission’s regular meeting will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Wichita, 400 W Waterman St. in Wichita, Kansas.
Then on Monday, November 24, three positions for the State Conservation Commission will be elected during the KACD annual conference, also at the Hyatt Regency Wichita. Nominations for qualified candidates will be accepted at the caucus meetings for representation to regional areas I, III and V beginning at 2:00 p.m.
The State Conservation Commission (SCC) is a formally organized state program policy board serving within the Kansas Department of Agriculture. Its elected and appointed members serve in a support role to the Secretary of Agriculture and KDA’s Division of Conservation (KDA–DOC).
Five members of the commission are elected by supervisors of local conservation districts within five regional areas of the state. Elected members serve two-year terms and must reside in the area which they represent.
In addition, the SCC includes two appointed members representing the Kansas State University Agriculture Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service; and two appointed members representing the Kansas Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service.
The SCC and KDA–DOC work collaboratively to protect and enhance Kansas’s environment through the review, development and maintenance of policies, guidelines, regulations and programs designed to assist individuals, non-governmental organizations, and all levels of government in conserving the state’s natural resources.
The meeting is a regularly scheduled board meeting and is open to the public.
