Conqs fall at home to Coffeyville
Dodge City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Dodge City Conquistador football team saw the No. 8 Coffeyville Red Ravens score all 42 points in the middle two quarters, as they would fall 42-10 at home on Saturday afternoon on a windy afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
Dodge City couldn’t have asked for a better start, as they opened up with a 12-play drive that lasted over seven minutes. Derick Shanks, Jr on fourth down would score from 22 yards out to give the Conqs a 7-0 lead. They would force the Red Ravens to punt and put together a nine-minute drive before punting.
Coffeyville (6-3, 4-1 KJCCC) would take the game over with a 17-point second quarter, that included two fumbles, and one fumble return for a touchdown of 31 yards in under a three minute span. The Red Ravens led 17-7 at the break.
After the Conquistador defense forced a Red Raven punt, Dodge City (1-8, 1-4 KJCCC) went three-and-out, and had their punt blocked at the goal line that Coffeyville recovered for a touchdown to go up 25-7. The Red Ravens added 17 more poitns in the third quarter to lead 42-7 heading into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, the lone scoring came from Eduardo Solis, who kicked in a 28-yard field goal for the Conqs.
Dodge City did outgain Coffeyville 214-213 in total yards, and had 168 passing yards. Braxton Clark was 12-16 for 118 yards. Shanks rushed for 52 yards on 12 carries with a touchdown, while David Ramos had seven receptions for 62 yards.
Coffeyville was led by Mac Armstrong, who threw for 86 yards on 8-13 passing and two touchdowns Steven Robinson had 66 yards on 11 carries and Jalile Bost had three receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown
Dodge City will host Butler to wrap up the season on Saturday, while Coffeyville plays at Montgomery County rival Indpendence on Saturday to close otu the season.
