TOPEKA — Atmos Energy requested a $19.1 million rate increase from Kansas utility regulators, which would increase average residential gas bills by 11.2%, or about $9.12 per month.

Atmos Energy provides natural gas service to about 140,000 Kansas customers, according to rate case filings made at the Kansas Corporation Commission.

Company officials said in filings that the revenue deficiency is driven by increases in investment, operations and management expenses and the cost of capital since its previous rate case in 2022. The settlement in that case resulted in an average residential rate increase of $1.03 per month.

KCC is holding a public hearing to discuss the possible rate increase at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus, 12610 S. Quivira Road, Overland Park. A virtual zoom option is also available, and participants must register in advance on KCC’s website by noon Dec. 1.

KCC will issue an order about the rate increase on or before March 26, 2026, a KCC news release said.
