GCPD warns residents of phone scam posing as police
Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–A phone scam involving individuals posing as the police, claiming you missed jury duty and now have a warrant to settle, is making the rounds in the community again.
Monday night, a resident reported receiving a call from “Travis Zimmerman of the Sheriff’s Office”, who claimed they missed jury duty, had an outstanding warrant, and needed to pay $5,000 to settle it. Fortunately, the resident did not fall for this or provide any financial information and notified us. And while Travis Zimmerman is an actual deputy for the Finney County Sheriff’s Office, he is not making such calls, nor is any law enforcement officer.
The Garden City Police Department nor Sheriff’s Office do not send automated or unsolicited phone calls or messages demanding money. If you receive a call from anyone stating they are from ANY law enforcement agency, hang up and call or visit the actual agency to verify the call is a legitimate call.
If you have questions or believe you have been a victim of a scam caller, please contact the GCPD at (620) 276-1300.
