Garden City, Kan.–A Garden City woman was arrested early Saturday morning for driving under the influence after her SUV struck a building early this morning.

Just before 1:30 a.m., Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of E. Campbell Street for a reported injury accident, and after arriving, they observed a GMC Suburban had struck the north wall of Garden Valley Church. The investigation revealed that the driver, identified as 45-year-old Chelby Wilson had been traveling northbound on 3rd Street when she nearly struck a parked vehicle. In attempting to avoid a collision, Wilson overcorrected, jumped a curb, and hit both a stop sign and a fire hydrant before the vehicle came to rest against the church building.

Further investigation determined Wilson was driving under the influence, and she was arrested and lodged in the Finney County Jail for DUI. No injuries were reported from the incident.

The Garden City Police Department reminds residents that if you drink, don’t drive, make sure you have a sober ride lined up, and call 911 to report suspected impaired drivers.
