Iowa woman dies in accident in Liberal

Liberal, Kan.–An Iowa woman died just before 8:30 am near the Loves Truck Stop on U.S. Highway 54 in Liberal.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a 2022 Kenworth semi driven by 41-year-old Emmanuel Terrell Lee Jimmerson of North Las Vegas, Nevad awas exiting from the Loves Travel Stop western entrance, initiating a left turn to travel east on U.S. Highway 54, when a 2021 Ford F350 driven by 73-year-old Stanley Wayne De Weerd of Rock Valley Iowa, was traveling west on U.S. Highay 54 and collided with the driver side of the semi.

De Weerd was taken to Westley Medical Center in Wichita for suspected serious injuries. A passenger in the Ford, 72-year-old Arlis Kay De Weerd of Rock Valley, Iowa, died at the scene. Both were wearing seatbelts, according to the KHP report.

Jimmerson, and passenger, 58-year-old Anthony Dewayn Wilson of North Las Vegas, Nevada, were uninjured. Jimmerson was wearing a seatbelt, while Wilson was not.
