Area 4A schools qualify 18 wrestlers for state

Across two regionals, four area schools in Class 4A qualified 18 wrestlers for state on Saturday.

At Beloit, Scott City would qualify six wrestlers in the 4A Regional. The Beavers had four in the championship finals, and saw Uli Armendariz at 106, Jeremiah Gonzalez at 132, Blaze Gossman at 165 and Easton Eisenhour at 190 all came up with second place finishes. Kasey Rohrbough at 126 and Max Depperschmidt at 285 finished in fourth. Colby squeaked by Abilene by 1/2 point to win the reigonal championship, while Scott City was third as a team. Colby’s Cole Garcia was voted the KWCA Regional Coach of the Year, while Beloit’s Brogan Monty was selected as the KWCA Regional Wrestler of the Year.

In Winfield, Hugoton qualified five wrestlers for state, and had Isaiah Peachey second at 113, Von Grubbs second at 175 and Uvaldo Martinez second at 215. Cooper Nix was third at 144 and Eli Camach was fourth at 138. Ulysses had four wrestlers punch their ticket to state. Jaxsen Salinas at 150 and Preston Hittle at 157 placed second, while Maddox Delgado at 126 and Emilio Guzman at 285 placed fourth. Holcomb qualified three wrestlers, with Haegen Hartman winning the regional title at 138, while Angelo Otero at 120 and Javid Corral at 157 placed fourth. Rose Hill won the regional title, with Andale the runner-up and Augusta took third.

The Class 4A State Tournament will take place on Friday & Saturday, February 27-28 in Salina.
