Wellsville girls rally to take 4A Girls state title; seven area girls medal

Salina, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a day where the Wellsville Lady Eagles would soar on the consolation side in day two of the Class 4A State Wrestling Tournament inside Tony’s Pizza Events Center. The Lady Eagles did not push anyone into the finals on Friday, and used big wins and falls to rally for their first state title. Colby and Abilene went back and forth both days, and Colby would come out as the runner-up.

Scott City medaled three wrestlers, with Haylie McDaniel placing second at 110, Amya Parker fourth at 120 and Dayanara Jimenez third at 170. Holcomb also medaled three with McKenzie Simon fourth at 135, Amayah Caro third at 145 and Alexis White sixth at 155. Ulysses got Jeymi Rosales on the awards stand, as she was fourth at 126. Scott City finished the highest among the area schools, placing 12th as a team.
