Broncbusters Drop Home Doubleheader to Butler

Garden City, KS – The Garden City Community College Broncbusters dropped both games of a conference doubleheader against Butler Community College on Saturday afternoon at Williams Stadium. Butler used timely offense and big innings in both contests to secure the sweep as the Broncbusters fall to 7–13 overall and 1–3 in KJCCC play.

Game 1: Butler 15, Garden City 10

The opener turned into a high-scoring battle as both teams traded offensive bursts throughout the afternoon.

Garden City jumped out early, scoring runs in each of the first four innings and erupting for five runs in the fifth to briefly take control. Aiden Wilson led the offense with three hits and three doubles, while Sean Philpotts delivered a home run and three RBI. Sean Togher also homered and drove in two runs, and Will Togher added two hits and an RBI as the Broncbusters finished with 11 hits.

Despite the early momentum, Butler answered with a six-run third inning before pulling away late with seven runs in the seventh. The Grizzlies totaled 14 hits in the game to claim the 15–10 win.

Game 2: Butler 13, Garden City 1

In the end, Butler capitalized on a nine-run fourth inning to break the game open and take control of the doubleheader finale.

Cael Hamrick recorded the lone hit for the Broncbusters, finishing 1-for-1 with a double and scoring the team’s only run. Aiden Roberts drove in the run with a sacrifice as Garden City was limited to one hit by Butler pitching.

Butler’s offense finished with 12 hits and took advantage of multiple scoring opportunities to secure the 13–1 victory.

With the losses, the Broncbusters move to 7–13 overall and 1–3 in conference play.

Next Up:
Garden City returns to Scooter’s Coffee Field at Williams Stadium on Thursday, March 12 to host Cloud County for the first two games of a four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM and 3:30 PM.
