Oberlin, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The season opener for the Scott City Beavers on Tuesday afternoon would find themselves in Oberlin, as they faced the Red Devils. While it’s still late March, the temperature of 81 degrees at the start of the first game made it feel like it was a late April game. Scott City would use solid pitching and timely hitting to pick up a pair of run rule wins, as they took the opener in four innings 18-1, and picked up a five-inning 16-1 win in game two.

Scott City 18, Oberlin 1, Game 1 (4 Inn.)
The Beavers wasted little time getting on the board, as they put up four runs in in the top of the first inning. After that, Scott City trusted their defense. After a scoreless second, the Beavers opened the game up in the third with 10 runs, highlighted by a three-run home run by freshman Jackson Harris. While the Red Devils scored their lone run of the game on an RBI single in the bottom of the third, Scott City was able to tack on four more runs in the fourth to make the final 18-1.

Jackson Harris had five RBI and two hits, while Aaren Radke had three hits and drove in a pair of runs. Spencer Cramer, Easton Eisenhour, and Uli Armendariz each had two RBI in the opener. Eisenhour went three innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits with five strikeouts. Teagan Feely pitched a scoreless fourth. Ricardo Munoz drove in Bentley Sutherland for the Red Devils’ lone run. Josiah Pattnegall gave up eight runs on four hits and walked seven in two-plus innnings of work, and took the loss. Tyler Ostmeyer gave up 10 runs on nine hits in two innings of relief.

Scott City 16, Oberlin 1, Game 2 (5 Inn.)
Scott City scored in every inning in the finale. Prior to the fifth, they scored at least three runs per inning and built their lead as the game went along. A three-run first, followed up by a four run second and a three-run third opened up a 10-0 lead. In the first, the Red Devils would have three hits. However, the Beaver defense would wipe Oberlin off the bases twice in the bottom of the first. A pickoff of the leadoff hitter, and a caught stealing took the first two runners out. In the top of the third, Emilio Contreras went opposite field on a two-run home run. The Red Devils got their lone run in the bottom of the third. The Beavers added four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, all done by pinch hitters, to make the final 16-1.

Spencer Cramer went three innings, giving up an unearned run on four hits with three strikeouts in three innings of work. Feely pitched the final two innings and struck out three. Easton Eisenhour had four RBI in game two, while Aaren Radke had five four and three RBI and Emilio Contreras drove in three runs. Avery Radke had three hits in the leadoff spot. Caden Shaw surrendered 11 runs, nine earned, on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings pitched. Brody Fortin gave up five runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings in relief. Brody Fortin drove in Bentley Sutherland for the lone run for the Red Devils in game two.
