Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week voting opens

The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 3 of the spring sports season has opened.

The site is at https://contests.cherryroad.com/event/1a74b41cc2f645c4. (A link can also be found at www.thekansan.com).

This week’s nominees are:

Boys

Adam Oswald, junior, Newton High School, tennis. Placed first in doubles at the Newton Invitational, along with partner Emerson Gering.

Tanner McAllister, Hesston High School, baseball. In three games, all Swather wins, McAllister pitched 3.2 innings for a win, striking out eight. He had seven RBIs.

Dacen Dedman, Halstead High School, track. At the Elyria Christian CKTL meet, Dedman won the triple jump and 100-meter dash and took second in the 200-meter dash.

Girls

Addison Zerger, sophomore, Newton High School, softball. Went six of 17 hitting in four games with six RBIs and a home run. Newton went 2-2 for the week.

Nivia Funk, Goessel High School, track. Won the 100-meter dash and 100-meter high hurdles at the Elyria Christian CKTL meet. Took second in the high jump.

Ashley Lehman, senior, Hesston High School, track. Won the 100-meter dash, 800-meter run, long jump and pole vault at the McPherson Invitational.

Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the Kansan.

Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.

Coaches and administrators may suggest nominees by e-mailing [email protected]. Please include the athlete’s statistics for the week and a photo. Three boys and three girls will be selected as nominees each week.
