Scott City baseball drops two in Colby, golf 10th in Goodland, tennis competes at Hays
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It has been a busy start to the week for sports in Scott City, as baseball was in Colby on Tuesday, boys golf in Goodland on Tuesday and tennis played in Hays on Monday.
Starting off with baseball, the Beavers made the trip to Colby to face the Eagles in a GWAC doubleheader. In the opener, Scott City grabbed a 1-0 lead, before the Eagles would put up two runs in the second and two more in the third to lead 4-2 after a run in the top of the third. Colby led 5-2 going into the fifth, when the Beavers rallied for two in the fifth and tied the game in the seventh. However, the Eagles had the last at bat and pushed the winning run across to win 6-5. Easton Eisenhour took the loss, giving up six runs, four earned on 14 hits with four strikeouts. Aaren Radke had two hits and two RBI, while Avery Radke had three hits and three runs scored. In the finale, the Beavers built a 6-0 lead through the top of the fifth. The Eagles rallied with three in the fifth, two in the sixth, and completed the comeback with two in the bottom of the seventh to pick up a 7-6 win. Scott City had 10 hits in the game, but committed eight errors in the lsos. Spencer Cramer had a three-run triple in teh third, while Aaren Radke and Emilio Contreras had two hits and an RBI. Teagan Feely got the start, scattering four hits in four innings of work. Cramer pitched the final two-plus innings allowing seven runs, three earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts.
Scott City falls to 6-6 overall, 3-3 in GWAC play, as they will return to the diamand on Tuesday at Cimarron.
In Goodland, the boys golf team competed at the Goodland Invitational at Sugar Hills Golf Course. The Beavers would finish 10th as a team with a team score of 386. Goodland won the meet with a score of 336, while Oakley was second and Colby took third. Leading the way for the Scott City was Jagger Spangler-Carlson who placed 10th with a score of 85. Hudson Feely and Hunter Fry shot a 97, while Drew Metzger had a round of 107, Chase Culp a 108, and Isaac Bain had a score of 132.
They will return to the links in Ulysses on Monday.
For boys tennis, the team competed at Hays on Monday in the Hays High Invitational. Placing fourth was the No. 2 Doubles team of Brice Koehn/Isaiah Rogers. Taking home fifth place was Emilio Alarcon at No. 1 Singles and Reed Batterton at No. 2 Singles, and placing seventh as the No. 1 Doubles team of Brant Powelson/Carson Bennett.
Scott City will head to the Ellsworth Invitational on Thursday.
