Scott City softball sweeps Ellis/Quinter
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In a day where the wind got stronger and the temperatures dropped, a pair of teams in the same 3A Regional met up on Friday afternoon at the Scott Rec Complex, as Scott City played host to Ellis/Quinter in a doubleheader. It would be a sweep for the Lady Beavers, as they took the opener 9-1, and rallied for a 16-6 win in five innings in the finale.
Scott City 9, Ellis/Quinter 1, Game 1
The Lady Beavers would take avantage of a pair of reaching base on dropped strike three’s in the first inning, as they opened up with a four-run inning. They stretched the lead to 6-0 in the second inning. After Ellis/Quinter scored in the third, the Lady Beavers added two runs in the fourth and another in the six for the win. In the four innings they scored, Scott City got the leadoff batter on base, and would eventually score.
Piper Fox had a hit and drove in tow runs, as the Lady Beavers collected six hits in the opner. Baylee Wolkensdorfer threw 94 pitches in the opener, allowing a run on four hits and had five strikeouts. Ellis/Quinter saw starting pitcher Lyla Zimmerman go six innings, giving up nine runs, three earned, on six hits, with 12 strikeouts.
Scott City 16, Ellis/Quinter 6, Game 2 (5 Inn.)
After the Lady Beavers led 1-0 after the opening inning, the Lady Railers put a scare into Scott City. Ellis/Quinter scored four runs in the second inning to go up 4-1. The Lady Beavers added another run in the second, and exploded for nine runs in the third to take the lead for good at 11-4. Ellis/Quinter would plate two in the fifth to pull to within 11-6. However, Scott City had enough and started the scoring with a solo home run by Peyton Gentry and scored four more runs, and walked it off in run rule fashion 16-6.
Peyton Gentry had three hits and drove in three runs, while Hayla Edwards had two hits and had four RBI. Riley Suppes ahd two RBI and Piper Fox added two hits. The Lady Beavers had 10 hits in the finale. Suppes gave up four runs on one hit in two innings in her third start of the year. Baylee Wolkensdorfer gave up two unearned runs on two hits with four strikeouts in the final three innings of work to pick up the win. Jersee Fabrizius gave up 16 runs, 12 earned, on 10 hits with six strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings of work. Chloe Gillespie and Raegan Jimenez had a hit and drove in a run in the loss.
Scott City improved to 10-2 for the second time in three seasons, and will play at Cimarron on Tuesday. Ellis/Quinter is 5-5 on the season, as they will host Sylvan-Lucas on Tuesday.
