TONGANOXIE — The Leavenworth County Livestock Buyers Association raised $85,300 during its sold-out 2026 gala, continuing its mission to support youth livestock exhibitors through scholarships and financial contributions at the county fair. The event was held at Whiskey Ridge and drew strong community support from individuals and businesses.“We are very proud of the efforts of our board and the outpouring of support from our local community to help the 4-H and youth livestock exhibitors at the county fair,” said Katie Lueck, who serves on the board and acts as a reporter for the organization. The association’s mission is to assist youth livestock exhibitors by raising and donating funds during the annual Leavenworth County Fair livestock auction, helping to offset costs and encourage continued participation in agriculture. The organization traces its origins to a simple conversation among local families.“The idea of hosting an event started around a kitchen table of 4-H parents asking themselves, ‘How can we support the future generations and keep youth involved in agriculture?”' Lueck said. “The answer — through establishing a scholarship fund and raising money to support the livestock auction at the county fair.”Board member Tim Kates said the program's continued growth reflects the strength of the local agricultural community.“This effort shows what can happen when a community rallies behind its youth,” Kates said.
