Scott City sweeps team titles at 89th Scott City Relays

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Temperatures at Tuesday’s 89th Annual Scott City Relays felt like it was at state track meet-like. With the high tempature near 90 degrees, and a slight south breeze, 18 teams made up of the relays, that saw several records on the track broken.

Scott City’s boys and girls were at the top of the standings, winning both the boys and girls standings for the first time since 2021. Scott City repeated as Scott City Relays winners on the boys side. The Lakin girls took second and Hoisington was third, while the Ulysses boys were second and Phillipsburg took third.

Four new meet records were either tied or broken. On the boys side, Phillipsburg’s Tanner Horinek broke his own meet record in the 110M High Hurdles. Hannah Canny of Stanton County took over the meet record in the 400M Dash. The Scott City girls broke the meet record in the 4x100M Relay and Syracuse’s Bronwyn Lewis tied the Pole Vault Meet record.

On the boys side, Gaige McGaughey of Ulysses took home three golds, winning the 100 and 200-Meter Dashes, to go along with the win in the 4x100M Relay. Baylor Childress of Elkhart would win the Shot Put and Discus. Other boys highlights included sophomore Michael Hermosillo of Scott City repeating as winner of the 1600M Run, and Wichita County’s Beau Porter taking the Javelin.

For the girls side, Hoisington junior Marley Bittel has won the 100 and 200M Dashes for a third straight year, Scott City swept the relay races, and Lakin’s Aryn Michaelis winning the High Jump, Triple Jump and 100M High Hurdles.
