Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week voting opens
The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 5 of the spring sports season has opened.

This week’s nominees are:
Boys
Gabriel Decker, Newton High School, track. Won the 3,200-meter run and took third in the 1,600-meter run at the Wichita Heights Invitational.
Jamison Kohl, Hesston High School, track. Won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles at the 55th Conrad Nightingale Invitational. Was a member of the winning 4×100-meter relay team, which set a school record. Was a member of the second-place 4×400-meter relay team.
Heath Churchill, Moundridge High School, track. Won the high jump and 110-meter high hurdles at the 55th Conrad Nightingale Invitational. Tied his own meet record in the high jump. Took second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.
Girls
Maisie Brubacher, Newton High School, track. Took second in the 400-meter dash and third in the long jump at the Wichita Heights Invitational. Was a member of both the 4×100- and 4×400-meter relays, which both finished second.
Reese Quinn, Hesston High School, track. Won both the 3,200- and 1,600-meter runs at the 55th Conrad Nightingale Invitational. Set a school record in the 3,200-meter run.
Annie Williams, Halstead High School, track. Won the long jump at the 55th Conrad Nightingale Invitational. Was a member of both the 4×100- and 4×400-meter relays, taking second in both events.
Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the Kansan.
Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.
