Hugoton boys, Lakin girls claim team titles at Lakin Invitational

Lakin, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a great weather day for track on Friday for the annual Lakin Invitational. With sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 70’s, 13 schools comprised of this year’s meet. In the end, the Hugoton boys and Lakin girls would take home the top spots.

Starting with the boys, Hugoton would win by eight over Ulysses, and Scott City was third. The Eagles used their depth to put together several wins, taking home five event wins. For Ulysses, Gaige McGaughey would sweep the 100 and 200 Meter Dashes. Scott City took the 4×400 and 4×800 Meter Relays. Quincy Esquibel won the 110M High Hurdles and Long Jump, while Elkhart’s Baylor Childress won the Shot Put and Discus.

The girls race was won by Lakin, who posted an even score of 100, followed by Scott City with 75 points and Ulysses & Syracuse tied for third. Lakin was led by Aryn Michaelis, who won the 100 Meter High Hurdles and the Triple Jump. Scott City took the 4×400 and 4×800 Meter Relays, while it was a big day for Aja Ysac for Ulysses, who won the 100 and 200 Meter Dashes. Bronwyn Lewis from Syracuse took gold in the Pole Vault and High Jump and Cimarron’s Jyntri Wilson won gold in the 800 and 1600 Meter Runs.
