Lady Beavers shut out Lyons
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In their regional opener on Tuesday, the Scott City Beaver softball team played host to Lyons. The Lady Beavers wasted little time putting the game away early, on as they shut out the Lady Lions 13-0 in 4 1/2 innings to advance to Wednesday’s 3A Regional semis.
After Scott City retired the Lions in order in the top of the first, the Lady Beavers went to work. The first eight batters reached base and ultimately scored, as they led 8-0 after an inning. They added a run in the second, and put up four more in the third for their 13 runs. The defense was solid throughout, only committing one error on the day, as they cruised to the 13-1 win in 4 1/2 innings.
Bailey Wolkensdorfer had three RBI, while Adalei Zeller and Hayla Edwards had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for Scott City. Wolkensdorfer pitched three innings in the circle, giving up one hit and struck out three batters. She pitched in the first inning and the fourth and fifth innings. Riley Suppes pitched the second and third innings, scattering two hits and had three strikeouts.
Taking the loss for Lyons was Madeline Tobisch, who gave up 13 runs, eight earned, on seven hits. She hit eight batters and walked six, while striking out one. Tobish, Neriah Nolan and Carsyn Winger reached base twice with a hit and a walk or an error.

At 20-5 on the year, Scott City will take on Ellis/Quinter at 3 pm on Wednesday. Ellis/Quinter defeated Ness/Trego 10-5. The 1 pm semi-final will be Colby facing Beloit. The Lady Eagles knocked out Holcomb 16-1, while the Lady Trojans defeated Haskell County 16-1. The games were originally set to be played on Thursday, but have been moved up due to the threat of rain on Thursday.
