SE of Saline boys, Beloit girls take home 3A Regional titles
Beloit, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a cool and damp Thursday at the Class 3A Regional in Beloit, as 16 schools made the trip to compete for a state berth. The competition was deep in nearly every event on the boys and girls, with good times and distances, that saw brief rain showers and drizzle throughout the running events.
Both Scott City boys and girls teams would take third place. They automacially qualified all three relays. Individual automoatic qualifiers include Kinleigh Wren in the 200 and 400 meter dashes, Peyton Bergner and Kasten Wren in the 400 meter dash, and Brendan Cook in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles.
On the boys side, SE of Saline would pull away late and win with 86 points, followed by Norton with 64 and Scott City with 60. The girls race was dominated by Beloit with 122.5 points, followed by SE of Saline with 69 points and Scott City had 54 points in third.
The top three placers in each event automatically qualify for state, while places 4-7 have to wait to see how the other three regionals finish out. Two of the four Class 3A Regionals have taken place, and the two remaining regionals will take place Friday. This is the first year that the top three finishers in each regional automatically qualify, with the next best six results from all four regions will qualify for state. In total, there will be 18 entries at the state meet this year for the first time, as the track has been extended to nine lanes.
The KSHSAA State Track & Field Championships will take place on Friday and Saturday, May 29-30 at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.
