Syracuse, South Gray runner up, Hodgeman County 3rd at state golf

The state golf meets wrapped up on Wednesday across the state of Kansas. Three area teams placed in the top three in their classifications. Syracuse was second in Class 2A, while South Gray was second and Hodgeman County took third in Class 1A.

At Firekeeper Golf course in Topeka, Shawnee Mission East won the 6A title by 10 shots as a team over Olathe Northwest, while Blue Valley North was in third. No area golfers made the cut for Wednesday. Dodge City’s Nathan Schulte shot an 85, and Ty Pressley fired a round of 91, while Garden City’s Brayden Walter shot an 86. The cut line was 78,

Class 6A Results

At Hesston Golf Course, Wamego repeated as the Class 4A state champions, outlasting Bishop Miege, and Andale was third. Two area individuals competed, as Hugoton’s Lane Stand tied for 42nd with a two-day score of 166, and Saven Rosales from Ulysess had a one day score of 83.

Class 4A Results

In Topeka at Lake Shawnee Golf Course, Wichita Collegiate won the state title, while Hesston was second and Wichita Trinity was third. Lakin’s Zavian Richter, was just one shot shy of qualifying for the second day, with a round of 85 on Tuesday.

Class 3A Results

Syracuse put together a solid two days to finish as the Class 2A state runner-up at Winfield’s Quail Ridge Golf Course. Sacred Heart has won 11 consecutive 2A titles and Hutchinson Trinity came in third. Area medalists includ Brock Keller from Syracuse placing third, Charlie Keller sixth and Jarrett Scott also from Syracuse tying for 19th. Also for Syracuse, Mason Scott tied for 25th, Reed Mathias was 45th and AJ Rivas was 53rd. Sublette’s Ethan Weber shot a round of 91 on Tuesday, and Tyson Peters from Wichita County had a round of 98.

Class 2A Results

Class 1A was played at Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson. Hill City took the team title, while South Gray was second and Hodgeman County placed third. South Gray’s Gavin Wahl took the individual title with a two day score of 141. Also from South Gray, Daxton Hendrickson placed 10th and Kelby Yost was 17th. Greeley County’s Braxton Mangan tied for 12th, and Elkhart’s Carlos DeHerrera tied for 17th. Elkhart just missed the cut for day two as a team, while Greeley County was ninth, Meade 11th and Minneola 12th.
