Class 1A: South Gray Girls 4th; Elkhart’s Childress wins shot put

Wichita, Kan.–Teams had to weather hot, humid and weather delays over two days at the KSHSAA State Track & Field Championships at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.

Some of the highlights from the area on the boys side include Elkhart’s Baylor Childress taking home the state shot put title, Meade taking home medals in two relays, and Dighton picking up hardware in several events. Axtell repeated as state champions, while Cunningham and Little River took the top 3 spots. Elkhart Tied for 20th, Spearville tied for 25th, Meade Tied for 29th, Dighton tied for 32nd, Hodgeman County was 45th, South Gray tied for 47th, and Satanta tied for 50th.

On the girls side, it was a big weekend for the South Gray Girls, as Jenna Simmons was a winner in the 3200M Run on Friday evening to go along with her third place 1600M Run on Saturday. They would finish second in the 4x800M Relay. Satanta’s Cameron Ross placed third in the javelin. South Gray just missed out on a team trophy, placing fourth. Clifton-Clyde was the state champion, followed by Ellis and Hanover. Dighton tied for 25th, Satanta and Bucklin tied for 31st, Ashland tied for 35th, Greeley County and Ingalls tied for 40th and Hodgeman County tied for 45th.
