Garden City man identified in Horsethief Reservoir drowning
Hodgeman County, Kan.–The victim’s name in a drowning at Horsethief Reservoir was released on Monday by the Hodgeman County Sheriff’s office.
Just after 3 p.m. on Saturday, a 911 call from Horsethief Reservoir reported a possible drowning. Units were dispatched to the swimming area at the reservoir where it turned into a recovery status. A Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks sonar unit was able to locate the individual and the victim was removed from the water shortly after 5 p.m.
On Monday, the victim was identified as 39-year-old Jose Orrantia from Garden City.
In addition to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, the Jetmore EMS and Fire, Ford County Fire Dive Team, Ford County Sheriff’s Office, KHP ground & air unit, Garden City Fire Rescue Boat and Dive Team, Ford County Communications provided assistance and the Jetmore Food Center assisted at the scene by providing cold drinking water.
