K-156 detour ends, road reopens in Hodgeman County

Posted July 1, 2026

The Kansas Department of Transportation has reopened K-156 west of Jetmore in Hodgeman County following the completion of the signed detour phase of an ongoing shoulder widening project.

While the road is open to traffic, motorists should expect intermittent single-lane restrictions along the corridor. A flagger and pilot car operation will be in place to direct traffic through affected work zones. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, remain alert and follow all posted signs and crew instructions.

The work is part of a larger project to widen shoulders, flatten the existing profile, replace multiple bridge structures and reconstruct the roadway. The project spans from the U.S. 283/K-156 intersection west approximately 4 miles to 214 Road.

Venture Corporation, of Great Bend, is the contractor on the $21.5 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of December 2026, weather permitting.
