Garden City man dies in rollover accident

Finney County, Kan.–A Garden City an died in a single vehicle rollover accident just after 8:15 p.m. Monday evening at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and Burnside Drive.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by 21-year-old Anthony J. Abete of Garden City was eastbound on Burnside Drive at U.S. Highway 83, when he crossed left of center and corrected back to the easbound lane. The vehicle traveled back left of center and started to slide, traveling off the roadway to the left and rolled.

Abate and passenger, 19-year-old Adan Gonzalez of Garden City, were taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City. Abate died and Gonzalez sustained serious injuries. The KHP report noted that neither occupants were wearing seatbelts.
